Life Change—While Awaiting Legal Charges

Paalit was a greedy, unkind man. He owned a forestry business that brought in large profits, but only because he violated the law to obtain resources. He got away with it for a while, and he lived an extravagant lifestyle with no concern for the consequences of his actions.

Eventually, his sins caught up with him, though. Many legal cases were filed against Paalit. He was on the verge of facing up to 12 years in prison, if convicted.

Paalit confided in a neighbor about his legal problems, and the man counselled him to give up dishonest business practices. The neighbor even quoted Scripture to encourage Paalit and explained that he was living in sin. He then invited Paalit to a local Adult Literacy Class, saying it would help Paalit find the meaning of life. Paalit was hesitant to join the class because he knew he had a bad reputation. He didn’t want to be judged by the other students, but he decided to give it a shot.

While waiting for the court’s decision, Paalit attended the Literacy Class taught by a man named Chaital. And as Paalit learned his alphabet, Chaital’s compassion softened his heart. Chaital counselled Paalit about good virtues and the benefit of keeping good company. Paalit started choosing different friends and practicing kindness. Before long, Paalit became a changed man. He started to hate all the evil things he once craved, and a strong desire welled up within him to know more about God.

Paalit’s eyes were opened to the truth about Jesus. He repented of his sins and received salvation! Paalit now loves God more than money. Although he is still facing significant legal charges, Paalit has surrendered his life to the Lord. His favorite Bible verse is Psalm 121:2, which says, “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Paalit hates the wrong things he did before knowing Jesus, and he is praying for grace in his upcoming court case. Will you pray along with us that Paalit will receive grace from the courts?
