No Such Thing as an Expiration Date

How long do you keep your New Year’s resolution? Forbes Magazine reports that nearly 30% of people give up on their resolutions by February 1st!

If you’re someone who struggles to pursue your goals or keep your commitments, it can be easy to feel like a failure. Like the moment you drop the ball, you’ve hit the expiration date on the new life you were working so hard to achieve.

But what if we told you there is no such thing as an expiration date in God’s book?

You mean I can get back on the wagon?

YES! Even better than that, you can ditch the wagon and live a life free from the weight of performance. It can be tempting to find our value in the timeline of our accomplishments, but Jesus offers a better way.

In 2 Peter 3:9, we read, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you…” No matter what it looks like on the outside, God is daily working to bring new life to your heart. He is not in a hurry like we tend to be. While everyone else assigns value based on external factors, God is concerned with your internal progress.

That changes everything.

It does! And it should. We read in 2 Corinthians 4:18, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” The thing that truly matters is how God is shaping your heart to reflect His, and that kind of change takes time. It also requires a shift in perspective—off of our temporary timelines and onto His eternal one.

God tells us in Revelation 21:5 that He makes all things new. By all things, He means you, too. So don’t give up! He’s working in your life even when it’s not on track with what you expected. You’re not running late; you’re right on time.

PRAY

  • Give thanks for His timeline!

TAKE ACTION
